We have great opportunities for the right people to get involved with a dynamic, high-profile organisation, to help us build on and consolidate our successes, to be an ambassador for our values and our campaigns, and to work with a team delivering real impact and lasting change in ending the brutal exploitation of workers by the like of Uber and licensing authorities, such as TfL.
All members of our National Executive Committee are or have recently been private hire drivers or couriers in precarious employment. Our membership reflects the profile of our industry. In London, for instance, 94% of licensed private hire drivers are BAME and 71% are from the most deprived London communities (according to TfL).
Due to rapid growth in membership the ADCU is now recruiting for the position of Caseworker. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious candidate with some experience in employment and/or licensing law. The ideal candidate will have a strong drive for social justice for workers in the so called gig economy.
The App Drivers & Couriers Unions (ADCU), founded in 2015, has grown rapidly to become the largest trade union for gig workers in Britain today. Our membership, focused on workers in the private hire and courier sector, is distributed nationwide with a sizeable concentration in London. The ADCU is a truly democratic, grass roots trade union serving an overwhelmingly BAME membership base. We are proud to say that our union is 100% funded by member subscriptions. The ADCU has nationwide membership with local branches in London, Birmingham, Northampton, Nottingham, Sheffield and Glasgow. Over the years we have organized multiple high profile actions including strikes, protests and strategic litigation. This year, our union won a landmark worker rights claim against Uber at the UK Supreme Court and is currently involved in further litigation against Uber in the High Court. We have also brought litigation against other industry employers.
